How to resolve the issue of “Connection Failed” to the WDSSLOCAL on Windows10:

Here is how to resolve the “Connection Failed” message box when starting WDSS Dashboard, WDSS Logger, WDSS VirtualRtu and WDSS SoftwareManager

Press “Yes” in the “Connection Failed” message box to review the settings.

In the “Configuration” message box press “Test”.

If you see the Microsoft “Connection failed” it is most likely that Microsoft’s SQL Server (WDSSLOCAL) has not started.

According Microsoft released notes this issue is theirs and is especially problematic on windows 10. The general issue is caused by windows 10’s automatic update and affects numerous software vendors’ including Adobe, Oracle, etc. In our case, the likely problem is Microsoft’s SQL Server (WDSSLOCAL) is not running.

This situation usually occurs when:

1.       There are pending updates.

2.       You are in the middle of an update.

3.       You have just finished an update.

4.       The automatic installed components/update have different load order requirement than before.

Here’s what you need to do to insure you have all the updates:

1.       Make sure there are no more pending windows update (e.g. check for windows update, reboot, repeat, -until there’s no more windows update).

2.       Go to “Windows Settings” [Click Start (or Windows button), Select “Settings” from the left side menu bar]

3.       Select “Update and security”

4.       Run the updates and reboot as many times as necessary.

5.       If after doing step 1 and you are still having problem connecting the database, then you’ll need to set the SQL Server service to “Automatic (Delayed Start)”. Once this is setup, you shouldn’t have to do this every time. But be aware after this change, it might take a few minutes after you log-on for the service to start up and be in a running state.

4.       Right click on SQL Server (WDSSLOCAL) and select Start.
